I am a graduate living in Manchester with an M.Arch from the Manchester School of Architecture. During my time at the MSA, especially over the course of my masters degree in the USE Atelier, I have been able to undertake projects using diverse modes of architecture, from modular residential schemes to carefully curated interventions that echo existing building types. I believe being given the opportunity to operate in these different realms of architecture has helped better equip me to be part of the industry.
I think the best architecture arises from operating within constraints. These may be implemented by a client, by a user, or by the site, but they ultimately contribute important pieces to the three-dimensional puzzle. Even new build construction must be able to operate as part of a larger urban fabric and this should be made manifest visually and programatically; to complement the existing architecture and to serve an existing community.
